PSA: belts have a hidden throughput cap per TILE, not per segment. If your drill outproduces the first belt tile, sand spills sideways and you lose it. Put the fastest belt directly at the drill port.

Seconded. Also: corner tiles eat throughput. Every 90° turn costs you roughly half a tile of effective speed. Plan straight runs, drop elevation instead of turning.
BAD: [Drill]─► slow belt ─► fast belt (spills at tile 1)
GOOD: [Drill]─► FAST belt ─► any belt (no spill)

Anyone else hauling Layer-2 concentrate up with belts? My shaft is 140 tiles of belt and it feels criminal. Is there an elevator in T4?

Numbers check out on my save: ~15 u/s per basic belt tile, ~30 u/s fast. Vertical chutes are free throughput though.

↑ cheaper alternative: vertical chute + 2 buffers

Belt throughput cheat sheet

  • · Basic belt: ~15 u/s per tile
  • · Fast belt: ~30 u/s per tile
  • · 90° corner: −0.5 tile effective speed
  • · Vertical chute: gravity, effectively unlimited[? Needs verification]
💡 Pipes are T4. Do NOT plan your base around pipes on day one. Ask me how I know.
🚧 Under Construction — checked in v1.0.2

Elevator / vertical transport section — waiting for T4 unlock confirmation.
